10 days in space, NASA after Artemis II's return to Earth: Astronauts are

NASA's Artemis II astronauts have returned to Earth. After 10 days in space, NASA announced that the 4 astronauts are in good health.

"The four crew members are in good condition,"  said Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman, adding that they will undergo detailed medical checks for safety.

The Orion spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California after a rapid and difficult reentry into Earth's atmosphere. The reentry operation was successful, and rescue teams immediately intervened to secure the capsule and crew.

On board were NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, as well as Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. They completed a 10-day mission that traveled around the far side of the Moon, testing technologies that will be used on future missions.

Re-entry was one of the most critical moments of the mission. The capsule endured extreme temperatures of up to 2,760 degrees Celsius and a temporary loss of communication before the parachutes opened and enabled a safe landing in the ocean.

Artemis II also marked several historic moments, as Victor Glover became the first black person to travel around the Moon, Christina Koch the first woman, and Jeremy Hansen the first non-American on such a mission.
