Additional 2 billion euros for Ukraine, Macron gives guarantees to Zelensky

France will provide additional military aid worth around 2 billion euros to Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday evening at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

"I can announce today that another two billion euros will be allocated for military support for Ukraine," Macron said. The new military aid package includes, among other things, anti-tank missiles, surface-to-air missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

He also said it was "too early" to talk about lifting sanctions imposed on Moscow after Russian troops invaded Ukraine, explaining that this would depend on Russia's compliance with international law.

Regarding the forces that some European countries are considering deploying in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement being reached, Macron assured that "they would not go to the front to fight."

The French president criticized Russia for its stance in negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire, stressing that the Kremlin cannot dictate the conditions for a lasting peace with Ukraine.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his belief that the US could exert strong pressure on Russia to accept an unconditional ceasefire, after Moscow set conditions for the cessation of hostilities in the Black Sea.
