The Kremlin declined to comment on reports that Iran's new leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has traveled to Moscow for medical treatment, following news published in regional media.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov was asked by reporters about a report by the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida, according to which Khamenei is in the Russian capital for medical care.
" We never comment on news of this kind ," Peskov declared, without giving further details.
Al Jarida's reports are consistent with information published by several media outlets the day before, according to which Mojtaba Khamenei traveled to Moscow for a foot operation. According to these reports, the medical intervention was planned and related to a health problem that required surgical treatment.
However, Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed such a trip and have not provided details about the Iranian leader's health condition.
International media have been reporting intensively in recent days on the activities and movements of Mojtaba Khamenei, while attention has increased following recent political and military developments involving Iran and the region.
