A serious accident occurred today in Hamburg, Germany, when a bus collided with a train in the city's port area. As a result of the collision, one person was killed and ten others were injured, the fire service told AFP.
According to authorities, all the victims were inside the bus. In addition to the man who died at the scene from his injuries, the bus driver was trapped in the vehicle for a long time and was the last to be freed by rescue teams. Two other people were seriously injured, while six passengers suffered minor injuries.
Some of the injured received first aid at the scene of the accident, while one of them was transported to hospital for specialized treatment. Authorities confirmed that the train driver was not injured.
The accident occurred on an unprotected crossing in the center of Hamburg's large port area, for reasons that are still unclear. Police announced that the victim died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
Rescue operations and investigations are ongoing, while the police forensic department is engaged in clarifying the full circumstances of the accident. In the meantime, a waiting area for the victims' families has been set up near the nearest bus station.
