
The Palace of Versailles in France has been evacuated due to a bomb threat, AFP reported on Tuesday, citing police sources.
France raised its terror alert level after the school attack in the northern city of Arras last Friday by a suspected Islamic extremist.
The relevant information has been confirmed by the Palace itself with a post on its Twitter account, which states:
Dear visitors, for security reasons, the Palace of Versailles is turning away visitors and closing its doors for today. Thank you for your understanding ."
According to police sources, an explosive ordnance disposal team has arrived at the scene, AssociatedPress reports.
Bomb threats have increased since the start of the school year in France, with 168 alarms at schools since the start of September, according to National Education Minister Gabriel Attal.
The palace as well as the Louvre Museum in Paris were also evacuated of visitors and staff on Saturday after bomb threats.
The Palace of Versailles was the home of King Louis XVI before his beheading during the French Revolution. It will be one of the venues for next year's Paris Olympics, where equestrian will be held.
