Pakistan will continue to play the role of mediator in negotiations between Iran and the United States. The announcement was made by the office of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, after a meeting with the Iranian delegation that arrived in Islamabad for talks with American representatives, askanews reported.
The official statement said: “ While appreciating Iran’s engagement in the Islamabad talks, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s sincere determination to continue playing its role as a mediator to contribute to creating momentum towards meaningful outcomes in the interest of regional and global peace and stability .”
Negotiations between Washington and Tehran to resolve the conflict began today in Islamabad. The night before, US President Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to a two-week bilateral ceasefire with Iran.
According to sources, a possible agreement could be based on a ten-point Iranian proposal, which is said to have received the approval of the US side. The plan includes the lifting of sanctions against Iran, recognition of its control over the Strait of Hormuz, the right to enrich uranium, as well as guarantees of non-aggression and the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Israeli operations against Hezbollah.
However, the situation remains tense. The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated that the United States has already violated the last three points of the proposal, rendering the ceasefire ineffective.
