Argentina has ordered the Iranian chargé d'affaires, Mohsen Soltanin Tehrani, to leave the country within 48 hours. The decision comes after Tehran criticized Argentina for designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
The Argentine Foreign Ministry declared Mohsen Soltan Tehrani persona non grata and said that Iran had made false, offensive and unfounded accusations against the Argentine Republic and its highest authorities.
In a statement issued by its embassy in Uruguay on Wednesday, Iran criticized Argentina's decision to declare the IRGC a terrorist organization as "illegal and unfounded" and warned that the move would harm bilateral relations.
Iran also said that Trump ally Argentine President Javier Miel and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno had become "accomplices in the crimes committed and ended up on the wrong side of history" by aligning themselves with the US and Israeli attacks, which began in late February.
Argentina's Foreign Ministry said Thursday it will not tolerate insults or interference from a state that has systematically failed to fulfill its international obligations and that continues to obstruct the progress of justice.
