Colombian authorities arrested Dajiberto Torres Rosario, a key figure in the Balkan Drug Cartel's drug operations at the "El Dorado" International Airport in Bogota.

For years, he was the main connection for many cocaine shipments sent from the port terminals of Guayaquil in the Iberian Peninsula.

As of April 2024, Spanish authorities had issued an arrest and extradition warrant for the 41-year-old Dominican citizen, accused of running a criminal organization dedicated to cocaine trafficking in Europe. The arrest is the result of a coordinated action by Colombian police, Spanish and Ecuadorian authorities, with the support of Interpol.

According to investigators, Torres Rosario has had a key role in the organization of cocaine smuggling for years. Through companies that exported fruit and agricultural products from Ecuadorian port terminals, he controlled drug shipments hidden in containers of legitimate goods.

These shipments are believed to have arrived in Europe on transoceanic ships, most often to Spain, from where the cocaine was further distributed. Torres Rosario, accused of smuggling more than 2,600 kilograms of high-grade cocaine into Spain between 2020 and 2022, has been targeted by Spanish authorities for years. His role in drug smuggling was of key importance to the Balkan Cartel, for which he controlled the entire chain in Latin America, from cocaine production to smuggling into Europe

He made a deal with criminals from the Balkan Peninsula, who live in South America. He will soon be extradited to Spain, where he will face charges of drug trafficking.
