Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reacted sharply after Russian fighter jets violated Estonian airspace, calling the action a dangerous provocation by Moscow.
He said that "the Russian invasion of Estonian airspace constitutes a new, unacceptable destabilizing measure by Moscow" and described the incident as "scandalous."
"Russian fighter jets violated NATO airspace again, this time over Estonia. This is unacceptable. Russian destabilization is expanding to new countries and in new directions. This is a systematic campaign that Russia is waging against Europe, against NATO, against the West. And this requires a systematic response," Zelensky declared, calling for "strong measures."
He emphasized that, in his opinion, "strong action is required, both jointly and by individual countries."
According to reports, three Russian MIG-31 fighter jets violated Estonian airspace for 12 minutes, increasing tensions and marking another direct provocation against NATO.
International reactions came immediately, with leaders such as Ursula von der Leyen and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas speaking out strongly against Russia, calling for a joint and determined response.
Meanwhile, NATO has described the incident as "another example of Russia's reckless behavior" and announced the launch of Operation Sentinel East, aimed at strengthening patrols of the eastern flank.
