The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the EU will provide 400 million euros in financial aid to Slovenia, which has been affected by devastating floods in recent days.

" We will allocate 400 million euros from the Solidarity Fund, 100 million this year and 300 million next year ," von der Leyen told reporters after visiting the affected areas in Slovenia.

The Slovenian government will also be able to withdraw €2.7 billion in financial aid from the EU's Next Generation Fund and redirect €3.3 billion from the Cohesion Fund.

" Tens of thousands of homes have been flooded and now tens of thousands of families in despair are wondering how they will survive in the coming weeks and months ," said Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob.

He spoke a few days ago about the "worst natural disaster" of the last 30 years in the country, after torrential rain turned part of the territory into an endless lake.
