Citing UNICEF figures, the UN agency for Palestine refugees (Unrwa) has said that 14,500 Palestinian children have been killed since Israel's war on the territory began last October.
In a post on X, Unrwa, which is banned from operating inside Israel and occupied East Jerusalem by the Israeli parliament, said a child is killed every hour in Gaza.
"A child is killed every hour. These are not numbers. These are short lives. Killing children cannot be justified. Those who survive are physically and emotionally scarred.
Deprived of education, boys and girls in Gaza walk through the rubble. The clock is ticking for these kids. They are losing their lives, their future and most of all their hope.
The estimated death toll from Israeli airstrikes in Gaza (as of early December this year) was more than 44,000, and a recent estimate by the UN Human Rights Office found that 44% of the deaths were in able to verify they were children. Some 1.9 million Palestinians in Gaza, roughly 90% of the territory's total population, have been displaced, many times. Half of this number are children who have lost their homes and have been forced to leave their neighborhoods," says UNRWA.
