Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has confirmed that the country's nuclear facilities suffered "serious damage" from US attacks over the weekend.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Baghaei declined to give details but acknowledged that Sunday's strikes by US B-2 bombers using bunker-busting bombs were significant.

"Our nuclear facilities have suffered serious damage, that's for sure," he says.

The admission came hours after US President Donald Trump contradicted a US intelligence report that said the strikes did not hit Iran's underground nuclear facilities.

The preliminary report of the damage caused by the Pentagon's intelligence agency was published by CNN, and the initial conclusions are in stark contrast to Donald Trump's continued statements that the attacks "completely destroyed" the uranium enrichment facilities.

US President Donald Trump stated at the NATO summit in The Hague today that US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities could contribute to reaching an agreement on the conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

During a statement to the media at the NATO summit in The Hague, alongside the alliance's Secretary General, Mark Rutte, Trump said he is "very close" to an agreement on the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

"I believe that great progress is being made for Gaza. Because of the attack that we launched, I think we will have some very good news," he told reporters, writes A2 CNN.

Trump added that the strikes "showed strength" and that this had an impact on regional dynamics. "I think it helped somewhat, showed a lot of strength. But even before that, we were very close to a deal on Gaza," the US president said.
