New details have emerged regarding the agreement reached between NATO Chief Mark Rutte and US President Donald Trump on Greenland. Trump said earlier that he had waived tariffs on European countries that opposed his idea for Greenland, after reaching a preliminary agreement with Rutte, but did not provide details.
Meanwhile, a NATO spokesman has now revealed the terms of the agreement. According to him, it has been decided that NATO countries, or rather 7 of them, will take over the protection of Greenland. On the other hand, an agreement between Denmark, Greenland and the US will set conditions that Russia and China will never have any form of access to the island.
"Discussions among NATO allies on the framework that the President mentioned will focus on ensuring security in the Arctic through collective efforts of allies, particularly the seven Arctic allies. Negotiations between Denmark, Greenland and the United States will continue with the aim of ensuring that Russia and China never gain a foothold economically or militarily in Greenland ," the NATO spokesman said.
