The escape of the boss of the Italian mafia 'Gargano', Marco Raduano, 40 years old, has come to an end, after the Italian police arrested him in front of a luxury restaurant, in which a woman was waiting for him where he had arranged a meeting for dinner.
He had escaped from Nuoro Prison on February 24, 2023 using a rope made of sheets, his escape lasting just under a year.
He was included in the list of the 10 most dangerous Italian fugitives wanted by Europol.
Also, the same policemen who arrested Matteo Messina Denaro, have also arrested in Spain the 40-year-old's right-hand man, Gianluigi Troiano, 30 years old from Vieste. The investigations were coordinated by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of Bari and carried out by the ROS Carabinieri and the Foggia provincial command, by the SCO police, the Cagliari Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Mafia Directorate in collaboration with the Spanish.
His escape had gone viral on the internet after 16 seconds of footage from prison cameras was posted on social media. In the posted video, he is seen mocking the state and running away. Immediately after that, the hypothesis was raised that the plan was prepared and carried out thanks to the collaborators who had waited for him outside and then facilitated his escape, La Repubblica reports.
Gianluigi Troiano was on the run since December 11, 2021, and was known as "U' Minorenn", who had managed to escape from house arrest by removing the "electronic bracelet" from Campomarino, in the province of Campobasso.
Troiano was sentenced to nine years and two months in prison and permanently banned from public office as part of the trial called "Neve di Marzo", the operation which, in 2019, dismantled the Raduano clan. Troiano was arrested in Granada, Spain while picking up a package.
In this last trial of Raduano, he was accused of complicity in the murders of Omar Trotta, in Vieste, of Giuseppe Silvestri, in Monte Sant'Angelo, and for the failed ambush of Giovanni Caterino, the latter ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment as the basis of the Massacre of San Marco in Lamis in 2017.
Raduano's escape was the first recorded escape from Nuoro prison and therefore caused a stir.
"The criminal profile of Raduano is particularly important. He is in fact at the head of the criminal organization of the same name operating in Gargano, in Vieste, federated in the other clans of Manfredonia, with the role of promoter, organizer and ruthless killer of the group, dedicated to committing murders, drug trafficking and managing extortion. He is known in the crime circles of Gargano and Foggia as 'Balloon' or 'Oolrich'. In recent days the underworld of Foggia has suffered another blow seriously, with the regret of 50-year-old Ciro Francavilla (of the Sinesi-Francavilla clan of the same name), considered a key element of the "Society", so it was written in the post of Europol after the escape of Raduano.
