European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has reacted again to Serbian Minister Snezhana Paunovic's statement about "ethnic cleansing" in Kosovo, describing it as shocking and unacceptable for a representative of a candidate country for membership in the European Union.
During her speech at the Special Committee for the Safeguard of European Democracy in the European Parliament, Kos said that she does not understand how the Serbian minister continues to hold the post after such a statement.
"It was shocking to hear something like this in 2026. I won't even repeat what she said. I can't imagine that a minister, after such a public statement, can continue to exercise her duty," Kos declared.
The European Commissioner also called on politicians from countries aiming to join the European Union to be aware of the responsibility that every public statement carries and the consequences it may bring.
