Diplomatic efforts to open negotiations between the United States and Iran appear to be intensifying, at a critical moment for developments in the Middle East.
According to Reuters, a senior Iranian official said that Washington has requested a meeting with the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, which could take place on Saturday. However, Iranian authorities have not yet given an official response and the matter has not yet been considered by the Supreme National Security Council, the highest decision-making body for strategic matters in the country.
This request confirms previous reports that place Ghalibaf at the center of diplomatic efforts, despite the fact that he himself has publicly denied the existence of negotiations with the US.
At the same time, according to Axios, US Vice President JD Vance held a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where the possibility of opening a negotiation channel with Tehran was discussed. Informed sources say that the two leaders also reviewed possible elements of an agreement to end the conflict.
These developments point to close coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv, while the US appears to be testing the possibility of a diplomatic solution through powerful figures within the Iranian political structure.
However, the situation remains unclear. On the one hand, the US signals readiness for dialogue and sets deadlines for ending the conflict; on the other hand, Iran continues to publicly deny any negotiations and warns of consequences in case of military pressure.
In this context, a possible meeting in the coming days would constitute the first concrete test of the seriousness of diplomatic efforts and the real possibility of an agreement between the parties.
