A Colombian Air Force Hercules C-130 military aircraft crashed on March 23, 2026 shortly after takeoff in the south of the country, near Puerto Leguízamo, in an area near the border with Peru.
According to local and international media reports, there were around 100 to 110 soldiers on board, although authorities have not yet confirmed a final figure.
Colombia's Defense Minister, Pedro Sánchez, confirmed the accident, but stressed that the number of victims and the causes of the crash still remain unclear.
Initial reports indicate a heavy toll of 80 victims, but figures vary. Some media sources mention dozens of dead, while others report that at least 57 people were evacuated alive from the scene.

Footage released by the media shows a large cloud of smoke and flames in the crash area, while military units and emergency teams are engaged in rescue operations.
