The United States Central Command (US Central Command – CENTCOM) released footage that, according to it, shows the explosions and destruction of Iranian ships in the Gulf of Oman.
In an accompanying statement, CENTCOM noted that two days ago Iran had 11 ships in this maritime area, while today “there are none.” According to US authorities, the naval vessels were neutralized as part of operations to ensure the safety of international navigation.
“The Iranian regime has harassed and attacked international shipping in the Gulf of Oman for decades. Those days are over,” the statement said. The US command added that freedom of navigation has been a foundation of US and global economic prosperity for more than 80 years and that US forces will continue to protect it.
The Gulf of Oman is a strategic corridor for global energy and commodity trade, connecting the Strait of Hormuz to the Indian Ocean. Any escalation in this area has a direct impact on maritime security and the stability of international markets.
