A senior spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Brigadier General Effie Defrin, stated that “all options are on the table” when asked whether Israel plans to expand its operations in Lebanon into a ground campaign against Hezbollah.
In a press conference held today, Defrin stressed that Israel is operating in Lebanon to remove a significant threat and that the campaign against Hezbollah will continue until “the threat from Lebanon is completely removed.” He added that the Hezbollah group has suffered “very heavy damage” from the recent Israeli attacks.
"Ultimately, all options are on the table. We will act to disarm Hezbollah of its weapons and remove threats to Israeli citizens," Defrin said, noting that the Chief of General Staff has approved plans on the northern border and that forces have been significantly reinforced, including the mobilization of about 100,000 reservists and dozens of battalions ready for defense and offensive.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following recent rocket and drone attacks by Hezbollah on Israel, which were responded to with intensive Israeli airstrikes in Beirut and southern Lebanon. According to Lebanese authorities, the Israeli attacks have caused dozens of civilian and military casualties. Meanwhile, the Lebanese government has begun to distance itself from Hezbollah's actions, describing some attacks as illegal and banning the group's military activities in some areas.
Experts warn that an Israeli ground operation in Lebanon could significantly expand the regional conflict, especially in the context of the simultaneous war with Iran. The IDF has reiterated that it has no immediate plans for a ground invasion, but that assessments of the situation are being made constantly and that any escalation by Hezbollah will be responded to with full force.
