Iran has threatened the United States with severe consequences in the event of military involvement in its territory, warning of a scenario similar to the Vietnam War.
The statement was made by Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh, who stressed from Tehran that his country is ready to continue the conflict for a long period and is not focused at this moment on diplomatic solutions.
"Just read about what happened in Vietnam. American soldiers could face a similar fate here in Iran," he said, underlining that a US intervention could bring unpredictable consequences.
The statements come in a tense climate, following two weeks of clashes that, according to reports, have caused around 1,500 deaths in Iran and displaced millions of civilians.
Meanwhile, the situation remains unclear regarding reports from Israel that a senior Iranian official, Ali Larijani, was killed in an attack in Tehran. This development has not yet been confirmed by Iranian authorities.
Larijani is considered a powerful figure in Iranian politics, with a long career in key positions, including leading parliament and serving as nuclear negotiator.
