US President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that he is scheduled to meet with Zohran Mamdani, the social democrat who was elected mayor of New York in the recent municipal elections.
As Trump announced, the meeting between them will be held on Friday, November 21, in the Oval Office of the White House.
"Communist New York City Mayor Zohran 'Khame' Mamdani requested a meeting. We have arranged for this meeting to take place in the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st," the Republican president wrote.
We recall that Mamdani declared a few days ago that he will contact President Donald Trump before officially taking office, in order to protect the city's interests.
According to the New York Post, Mamdani said he intends to cooperate with his opponents, but that he will oppose any action by the federal government that could harm New Yorkers.
"I will reach out to the White House as we prepare to take office, because this relationship is essential to the success of the city," he stressed in an interview with NBC New York.
The mayor expressed his intention to prevent the federal government from "filling the city with ICE agents or National Guard troops," adding that it is his responsibility to cooperate with opponents and prevent negative consequences for the citizens of New York.
Mamdani stressed that his message to Trump will be clear: “I am here to work for the benefit of all who call this city their home, and I am ready for cooperation, as long as it is not done at the expense of New Yorkers.”
The US president had stated before the November 4 elections that he could suspend federal funds, and even intervene in local administration, if Mamdani, whom he called a "communist", won the election.
