A senior adviser to the United Arab Emirates, Anwar Gargash, has said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements about a long-term presence in Gaza were worrying.
"We hear now from the Israeli prime minister and indeed the Israeli president about some kind of long-term Israeli engagement with Gaza. They are very worrying ," he said at the Manama Dialogue summit of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Bahrain.
Netanyahu said last week that Israel would have "overall security responsibility" for the Gaza Strip "for an indefinite period."
" This shows that perhaps the lesson that we, like most people in the region, are taking from the Gaza crisis, which is the need to return to the two-state solution, we should return to the living side of the Israeli and Palestinian state. This lesson was probably not the same ," he said.
