UAE says it did not attack a civilian facility, as tensions in the Persian Gulf rise after Iran drone attacks...

A senior United Arab Emirates (UAE) official denied that his country had struck a desalination plant in Iran, following reports that such an attack had taken place on Sunday.

According to the source, the Emirates would not launch an attack on a civilian facility to engage in the conflict, but would only target military targets. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has also denied any involvement in the reported attack.

Initial reports suggested that the Emirates had struck a desalination plant in Iran, which would constitute the first direct response to Iranian drone and missile attacks as part of the broader conflict involving Israel and the United States against the Iranian regime.

This claim was added after a previous report by The Jerusalem Post, according to which a senior Western diplomatic source had stated that Qatar had carried out attacks inside Iranian territory last week, in response to Iranian drone and missile attacks.

Abu Dhabi had reportedly considered a response after Iran struck several Gulf countries, including the Emirates, following the start of Israeli and US attacks on February 28. Last week, authorities in the Emirate of Fujairah extinguished a fire caused by the remains of a drone intercepted by air defenses in the oil industrial zone.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that the Emirates is considering freezing billions of dollars worth of Iranian assets, a move that could significantly weaken Iran's economic ties to the global economy.

Later on Sunday, the Emirati Ministry of Defense announced that the death toll from Iranian attacks in the country had risen to four.

Iranian attacks have also affected other Gulf countries. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain reported drone strikes on Saturday and early Sunday. In Kuwait, a large fire engulfed a government building and two firefighters were killed in the line of duty, according to the country's Interior Ministry.

In an effort to ease tensions in the region, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized to neighboring countries for attacks on US bases on their territory. According to his statement, the attacks targeted the US military presence and not the Gulf countries themselves.
