Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after a cabinet meeting, has made clear statements on Ankara's stance on the recent crisis in Venezuela, following the US military intervention and the overthrow of the Nicolas Maduro regime.
In his statement, Erdogan emphasized that Turkey is working for what is fairer and better, both for the Turkish and Venezuelan people.
He stressed the importance of solidarity between the two countries in difficult times, hinting that Ankara will not give up its support for Caracas, despite international pressure.
" Turkey and the Turkish people will continue to stand resolutely by the friendly people of Venezuela in their struggle for development, peace and prosperity ," Erdogan declared.
During his speech, the Turkish president announced that he had a phone call with US President Donald Trump, where he conveyed his government's concern about the internal situation in Venezuela.
" I stressed the importance of avoiding instability in Venezuela. We are very sensitive to the developments taking place there ," Erdogan said, indicating for the first time that Turkey is seeking a more cautious line between supporting ally Maduro and preserving international balances.
