The former Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, has reacted again to the arrest and detention of the mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, a matter for which he said that Greece will not let it pass easily.
In an interview with the Greek media, Dendias threatened that the Beler case will affect relations with Albania.
"The Beleri issue will not be hidden under the table. I hope that Greece's relations with Albania will improve, but this is a very big obstacle. They are wrong if they think that something like this can easily be put under the table, ignored or forgotten ", said Dendias in a television interview for the Greek media.
He went on to say that Beler's arrest risks creating problems for Albania's path towards the EU, giving indications that Greece will be against it. Denduias said that the Greek side has analyzed the file and according to him the evidence does not justify Beler's arrest.
" It is something extremely unpleasant. It will create tensions in the relations between the two countries and I am afraid to say that it will also create problems on Albania's path to Europe, something that Greece is supporting and helping. The arrest of an elected president, in a European state of law, is not acceptable. We saw his file, we analyzed it and the evidence that appears to be included does not justify the temporary detention of an elected president ", he further stated.
