Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has acknowledged that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is moving at a slow pace, but said that Kiev will not be pressured to speed up its counteroffensive.
" Some people believe that this is a Hollywood movie and expect results now. It's not like that. What's at stake are people's lives ," Zelensky said.
So far, Ukraine says it has retaken eight villages - marking the first significant gains on the battlefield in seven months.
However, Ukrainian forces have so far been unable to push their way into Russia's main defensive lines. It is understood to have set aside 12 brigades of thousands of troops each, although most of them have not yet joined the war.
Zelenskyy said the military push was proving difficult as 77,220 square miles of Ukrainian territory had been mined by Russian forces.
" Whatever some may want, including attempts to pressure us, with all due respect, we will advance on the battlefield in the way we deem best," he added .
