Iran has confirmed the death of Ali Shadmani, commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Iranian state media IRNA quoted a statement from the headquarters.
Shadmani reportedly died from his wounds following Israeli strikes last week. The Israel Defense Forces announced in a statement on June 17 that Shadmani had been killed following accurate information, the BBC reports.
Shadmani was an aide to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and was known as the country's "wartime chief of staff."
He was appointed on June 13 as commander of Khatam al-Anbia after Israeli airstrikes killed his predecessor in the role, Gholamali Rashid.
Israel launched its strikes on Iran on June 13, saying it aimed to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. The two countries exchanged daily attacks for 12 days, and on Sunday the US attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities, saying it destroyed Iran's nuclear program.
