Israel targeted Ali Larijani, the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in an attack carried out in Tehran on Monday night, according to an Israeli source familiar with the developments.
Israeli authorities are still awaiting the results of the so-called battle damage assessment, to determine whether Larijani was killed or injured in the attack.
On Tuesday morning, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir declared that "important results have been achieved in Iran" during the night operations.
According to the IDF, a wave of coordinated attacks were carried out on several cities, including Tehran, Shiraz and Tabriz, on Monday evening. However, the Israeli military did not officially confirm that Larijani was a target, emphasizing that the targets were mainly missile production facilities and command centers.
"In addition to the ongoing damage and weakening of military and industrial production capacities, we are acting against elements of the Revolutionary Guard and the regime's repressive apparatus," Zamir said during an assessment of the situation.
Meanwhile, according to the same source, Israel also struck senior figures of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza, a group backed by Iran, in a separate attack carried out a few days ago.
