Initial reports suggest that the island's oil export hub has been hit, with potential consequences for the flow of crude oil in the region.
The United States carried out strikes on military targets on Iran's Kharg Island, according to the Axios news agency, which cited a senior US official.
The Iranian Mehr news agency reported that a large explosion occurred on the island, which is located in the Strait of Hormuz and constitutes Iran's main energy hub, a few hours before the expiration of Donald Trump's ultimatum to Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a post by the agency on Telegram, "the American-Zionist enemy carried out several attacks on Kharg Island, while several explosions were also heard."

Kharg Island is located in the Persian Gulf, about 30 kilometers off the coast of Iran, has an area of about 20 square kilometers and is a major oil hub for Iran. It has been the country's main export terminal for decades, and exports through Kharg are vital to the regime in Tehran, especially to China.
