"Europe should focus on Russia and Ukraine", Trump "no

US President Donald Trump has deliberately avoided a direct answer on whether he would use force to take control of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark with strategic importance in the Arctic. In a brief telephone interview with NBC News, when asked explicitly whether he would use force to invade Greenland, Trump simply replied: “No comment.”

This short, but politically weighty, response has sparked widespread reactions and speculation in international circles about the Trump administration's true intentions toward the Arctic region. It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the former president, now in office, has expressed interest in the giant island located between North America and Northern Europe, rich in natural resources and strategically positioned in the middle of the North Atlantic.

In the same interview, Trump said the European Union should focus on the war between Russia and Ukraine and “not Greenland.” He called on European countries to “not meddle where they don’t belong,” considering the U.S. interest in Greenland a legitimate sovereign issue.

Trump repeated his earlier threat, saying he would impose "100%" tariffs on European countries if there is no deal allowing the US to buy Greenland. The economic pressure comes amid a tense climate between Washington and Brussels, particularly over trade, energy and security issues in the Arctic.

Following the interview, the US president did not spare any stinging attacks on Norway, alluding to the Norwegian government's direct influence over the Nobel Peace Prize. "Norway has complete control over it, no matter what they say," Trump declared, implying that he believes the prize was not awarded for political reasons rather than merit.

These statements come at a time when American policy is increasingly extending its influence towards the geostrategic north, while Europe appears divided and drawn into other more urgent challenges, such as the war in Ukraine and internal political crises.
