United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that European leaders will not come to the Oval Office meeting tomorrow to protect Zelensky from "taking some bad deal," but rather, they have been a key part of the conversations throughout the peace negotiations.
"This is such an idiotic media narrative that they're coming here tomorrow because Trump is going to force Zelensky to make a bad deal. We've been working with these people for weeks on these things. They're coming here because they chose to come tomorrow. We invited them to come ," Rubio said on CBS's "Face the Nation."
Rubio also said he doesn't expect a peace deal anytime soon. " I'm not saying we're on the verge of a peace deal. But I'm saying we saw movement, enough movement to justify a follow-up meeting with Zelensky and the Europeans," he said.
Responding to the February Oval Office meeting, where US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized Zelensky for a perceived lack of appreciation, Rubio said: "Do you know how many meetings we've had since then?"
"They're not coming here tomorrow to not allow Zelensky to be bullied. They're coming here tomorrow because we've been working with the Europeans. We talked to them last week. There were meetings in the United Kingdom over the past weekend," Rubio concluded.
