What's behind Hamas' 'secret' hostage-taking strategy?

Aside from the surprise attack, the question that raises many dilemmas is what strategic goal is Hamas fulfilling by taking hostages, and how much does it make Israel's response difficult?

SkyNews defense analyst Michael Clarke stated that the strategic goal is to increase anger over the airstrikes that Israel has carried out in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
