Russia's Ministry of Defense has announced that the Akhmat group of Chechen special forces is conducting an offensive near the city of Mariinka in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.
On Thursday, Akhmat commander Apti Alaudinov said his forces were moving to "another area" in preparation for a counteroffensive, but did not say where.
Along with the Wagner mercenary group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, troops from Russia's Chechen Republic have been one of the main forces fighting for Moscow in Ukraine.
However, the two groups have been openly arguing on Thursday, with one of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov's close allies calling Prigozhin a blogger who constantly shouts about problems.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Prigozhin has announced the final withdrawal of his troops from Ukraine on June 5, when he will hand over the occupied territories to the Russian army.
