The European Union's foreign policy chief, Ursula von der Leyen, is sealing the political divorce between the United States and the European Union.

This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić at the World Economic Forum in Davos, who is not the first to criticize the attacks on Brussels.

"Ursula von der Leyen in her speech here in Davos emphasized the 'political divorce' between America and Brussels. She used three words when talking about the sanctions, which she called a big mistake. She said that the response would be proportional, unwavering and united. Tomorrow we will hear Donald Trump's response," Vučić said.

He says he expects a very strong speech from Trump, in the opposite direction to what was heard today from European leaders.

"This game of tariffs and decision-making on a daily basis is not good, as the Chinese vice premier mentioned. We are slowly but surely entering daily decision-making and you can't plan anything. The world is going in a crazy direction," he added.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the European Union is committed to the security of the Arctic region.

Vučić's comments come at a time when Brussels has called its pace of EU integration slow and lacking serious reforms in the justice system, media freedom, human rights and, above all, its lack of alignment with the bloc's foreign policies.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this Tuesday that geopolitical upheavals should "serve as an opportunity for Europe."

According to her, the "seismic change" the world is seeing is an opportunity to build a "new form of European independence."

She added that this need is not new, nor a "reaction to recent events", but has been a "structural imperative for a long time".

"If this change is permanent, then Europe must change forever too. It is time to seize this opportunity and build a new independent Europe."

Von der Leyen stressed that the EU is choosing "fair trade over tariffs, partnership over isolation, sustainability over exploitation."

While focusing on the situation in Greenland, the President of the European Commission stated that Europe is "fully committed" to Arctic security.

"We share the objectives of the United States in this regard," she said.

According to her, Arctic security can only be achieved together, adding that this is why the additional tariffs proposed by Trump are "a mistake."

Referring to the EU-US trade deal reached last July, von der Leyen said: "A deal is a deal. When friends shake hands, it has to make sense."

However, she stressed that Europe's response will be "unwavering, united and proportionate".

Von der Leyen also said that the European Union stands in "full solidarity" with Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark, adding that their sovereignty is "non-negotiable."

She stressed that the EU will work with Denmark and Greenland "side by side" to best support their local economy and infrastructure.

The EU will also work with the US and all partners on “broader Arctic security,” adding that this is in “our common interest.” This includes using the EU’s “increased defense spending” to invest in Arctic security.

She also said that "shared security" among EU partners, including Canada, Norway and the United Kingdom, is important.

"I believe that Europe must adapt to a new security architecture," she said.
