Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has commented on the US-Europe dispute over the future of Greenland, questioning the island's current status as part of Denmark.
"Greenland, in principle, is not a natural part of Denmark, is it? It was neither part of Norway nor of Denmark. It is a colonial occupation. The fact that the inhabitants are now used to this and feel comfortable is another matter," Lavrov said.
He went on to say that Moscow had no interest in interfering in Greenland's affairs and that Washington knew that Russia had no plans to take control, contrary to Donald Trump's claims.
But the Russian Foreign Minister has chosen to sting the United Kingdom, which is among the countries that has most strongly supported Ukraine.
According to Lavrov, Britain has no reason to call itself "great".
"No offense, but I think it should just be called 'Britain.' Because with 'Great Britain,' this is the only time in history when a country calls itself 'great,'" he said.
Russia accuses London of working hard behind the scenes to undermine Moscow's interests around the world, while imposing Soviet-style restrictions on British diplomats.
While ruling out the possibility of reaching any agreement with European leaders, Lavrov expressed his readiness for cooperation with the US regarding the Balkans, on what is happening in Bosnia, but also in other countries.
