Fearing a widening war in the Middle East, Blinken arrives in Israel to propose

The White House has proposed a series of localized pauses and ceasefires in the fighting to allow aid to be sent to Gaza or evacuations to take place.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived a few minutes ago in Israel, in what is his second visit since Hamas launched a series of deadly attacks in the country on October 7.

Fearing an escalation of the conflict, Blinken is expected to discuss with the Israeli government to minimize harm to civilians in the Gaza Strip. Before leaving the US, Blinken said he would demand "concrete action" from Israel to ensure harm to Palestinian civilians is reduced, following calls from US President Joe Biden.

The White House has proposed a series of localized pauses and ceasefires in the fighting to allow aid to be sent to Gaza or evacuations to take place.

Today's meeting comes at a critical point in the conflict, with Israel gaining momentum in a counterattack that has sparked an international response that has gone beyond US expectations. Israel is accused by many organizations of committing genocide against the Palestinians and this could turn into a boomerang for it and its main ally the US.

On the other hand, the merciless Israeli attacks have brought a reaction from the Arab countries, which threaten involvement in the conflict. Even today, an important speech is expected from the leader of Hezbollah on the Israel-Hamas war. What he says may determine whether or not the conflict spreads.

Lebanon is anxious ahead of Friday's expected speech by Hezbollah leader Syed Hassan Nasrallah on Israel's war in Gaza, which residents and experts fear could inflame regional tensions if he vows to escalate attacks against Israel.

In an effort to minimize the spread of the conflict in the Middle East, Blinken will also hold meetings with the leaders of neighboring countries.

So after the talks in Tel Aviv, Blinken will travel to Jordan. Meanwhile, on Sunday, November 5, he will make an important visit to Turkey, one of the most vocal countries against the war in Gaza. Erdogan's statement and accusations against the US and Israel have forced the secretary of state to undertake a visit to Ankara to calm the already very tense situation.

Erdogan has threatened since the start of the Israeli counterattack that he will intervene in the conflict if the killing of civilians continues. He has also accused the US of not intervening to calm the situation because the victims of the attacks are Muslims.

We recall that since October 7, around 1,400 Israelis and more than 9,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 3,000 children. / Pamphlet
