The Minister of the Interior of Poland, Mariusz Kaminski, announced that Poland will send 500 policemen to its border with Belarus, due to the tense situation.
"Due to the tense situation on the border with Belarus, I have decided to strengthen security with 500 Polish police officers from the preventive and counter-terrorism units," he wrote on Twitter.
Last week, Warsaw announced the tightening of security due to concerns about the presence of the Wagner group in Belarus.
We recall that the presence in Belarus of 8,000 soldiers belonging to the Wagner group has worried the countries of the European Union that border the country headed by Alexander Lukashenko.
Poland will reinforce the border (about 400 kilometers) with the Belarusian state. It was the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who reported this decision: "These are dangerous elements for Ukraine and the Ukrainians know it. It is potentially dangerous for Lithuania as well and it can be dangerous for us as well."
The representative of the Polish executive described the attitude of Wagner's paramilitaries as a "dangerous element" and spoke of a possible escalation of the conflict.
"This could mean a new phase of hybrid warfare, a much more difficult phase," he said.
Other members of the government, such as Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, explained that the cooperation of the Armed Forces and the Border Guard, responsible for border security, is key to "strengthening the security of the country".
Another one of those who justified the measure was the Polish Prime Minister, Andrzej Duda, who also spoke about the danger that the accommodation of Wagner's soldiers could pose for the neighboring countries of Belarus: "It is difficult for us today to rule out that their presence could pose a potential threat to us and a threat to Lithuania and Latvia".
