Law enforcement in Austria has discovered a small arsenal in Vienna that investigators link to a Hamas-affiliated terrorist network suspected of organizing attacks against Israeli or Jewish targets in Europe.
The Interior Ministry in Vienna reported this. The discovery follows the arrest of a 39-year-old British citizen in London on Monday, November 3.
A 36-year-old German of Lebanese origin, a 43-year-old Lebanese man and a 44-year-old German of Syrian origin are also in custody in Berlin, all arrested as part of the same international investigation.
According to the German Federal Prosecutor's Office, the man arrested in London is suspected of having obtained five pistols and ammunition in Berlin and then transported them to Vienna for storage.
This investigation is consistent with the arrest in Germany in early October of three suspected foreign Hamas "operators": in that case an AK-47, pistols and ammunition were seized.
Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner spoke of "zero tolerance" towards terrorism and praised the cooperation between European services that led to the seizure.
