Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has reacted harshly to French President Emmanuel Macron's statement that Russia is offering Ukraine capitulation, not peace.
Zakharova described Macron's statements as a "low lie" and accused Paris of leading Kiev towards destruction.
"What a shameful lie! Russia has been proposing for seven years a peaceful solution to the internal Ukrainian crisis, according to the Minsk agreements!" Zakharova wrote.
According to her, it was French politicians who encouraged Ukrainian mercenaries to organize the 'Maidan' and carry out a coup, undermining peace and security in the region.
The Russian spokeswoman also referred to a statement by former French President François Hollande, who in 2023 admitted that the Minsk agreements were intended to give Ukraine time to prepare for war.
According to Zakharova, the real capitulation of Ukraine was proposed by those who for years have fed Kiev the illusion of "victory on the battlefield," even though they knew that this was impossible.
At the end of her statement, Zakharova named the main culprit for this situation: "Among them, first of all, Macron himself."
