British government issues war survival guidelines, list of 9 essential items

The British government created a website called "Get Ready," which offers families timeless advice on being ready for the outbreak of war and managing crises such as weather events.

The website includes guidelines on what a British family should have to be prepared for anything.

List of 9 essential items a family should have

1. Battery-powered or manually charged lantern, because lanterns are safer than candles.

2. Portable power bank, to charge your mobile phone.

3. Battery-powered radio for information in case of a power outage. A car radio can also be used, but in extreme weather conditions “it is safer to stay inside.”

4. Spare batteries, for flashlights and radios. Also spare batteries for any medical equipment you may need.

5. First aid kit, with waterproof bandages, bandages, thermometer, antiseptic, eyewash, sterile gauze and gloves, medical tape for bandages, and tweezers.

6. Hand sanitizer and wet wipes, for hygienic reasons in case there is no water.

7. Bottled water, the government emphasizes that "there is no set number" for emergency needs, as they vary depending on duration and use. According to the World Health Organization, at least 2.5-3 liters of water per person per day is recommended. Around 10 liters per person per day is considered more comfortable, as it also covers hygiene, cooking and baby feeding.

8. Long-lasting foods that do not require cooking, such as canned meat, fruits or vegetables, and a bottle opener.

9. Baby supplies, such as diapers and powdered milk. Ready-made infant formula is best for storage, as it may not have access to hot water.

The website adds: "Instead of buying everything at once, you can gradually add things to your emergency kit and build it over time."
