Former Ukrainian army commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny has raised the alarm that World War III has already begun, as Russia is receiving open support from its autocratic allies, including North Korea, Iran and China.
At a ceremony in Kiev, Zaluzhny stated that around 10,000 North Korean soldiers are fighting alongside Russian troops in the Kursk region, while Iran has sent over 8,000 Shahed attack drones, also helping Moscow produce the technology to build them.
He said these drones are openly attacking civilian and military targets. Meanwhile, weapons made in China and North Korea are being used against Ukraine.
Russia, on the other hand, has launched attacks with advanced hypersonic missiles, including an Oreshnik missile, which Moscow says is impossible to stop.
While Ukraine has carried out attacks inside Russia with British Storm Shadow and American ATACMS missiles, Russia has reported casualties, including a top general from North Korea.
Zaluzhny called for more Western support, stressing that victory is still possible if international partners increase military aid.
Zaluzhny, known as the "Iron General", was replaced in February, being succeeded by Oleksandr Syrsky, a commander with close ties to President Zelensky.
