Moments of emotion and public reaction were recorded among representatives of the National Association of Magistrates (ANM) in Italy, while the first results of the referendum on judicial reform showed an advantage for the "No" camp.
According to Italian media reports, leaders and members of the ANM gathered to follow the vote counting process, reacting enthusiastically to the trend of the results. In some published footage, they are shown singing the symbolic song "Bella Ciao".
Former ANM president Alessandra Maddalena was seen to be emotionally moved, while Ettore Ferrara, president of the "No" committee, and judge Pierluigi Picardi reacted enthusiastically to the developments. Prosecutor Antonello Ardituro appeared more reserved, but joined in the singing.
The Association of Magistrates has been among the main opponents of the government's proposed reform, arguing that the changes could weaken the independence of the justice system.
