The Louvre Museum is facing new problems, once again damaging its image in just a few months. Following a sensational theft in October, French authorities launched a major police operation on Tuesday to dismantle a large-scale fraud ring in the museum's ticket system.

According to the newspaper Le Parisien, information confirmed by the Louvre itself, there are suspicions of an organized network that carried out structured fraud. A spokesman for the museum stated that, based on the data available, there are indications of large-scale organized activity.

Sources close to the investigation say the procedures began in the summer of 2024 and involve outside tour guides, travel agents and museum ticket office employees. According to the investigation, the network organized group tours that exceeded the allowed limit of 20 people and charged additional tourists higher entrance prices, with a particular focus on visitors from China.

During the operation, 12 people were arrested, including two museum employees and several tour guides.

The Louvre has faced other challenges recently. In addition to the October theft, the museum closed one of its galleries in November due to damage and has been facing staff protests since mid-December over working conditions.
