Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov has caused strong controversy in Italy after publicly insulting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his show "Polnyj Kontakt".

Speaking in Russian and Italian, Solovyov called Meloni a "fascist" and a "bad woman," adding that "betrayal is her middle name," based on her stances toward Donald Trump.

"Betrayal is her middle name. She betrayed Trump, to whom she had previously sworn allegiance," Solovyov added during his program.

These statements have brought an immediate reaction from the Italian Prime Minister, who in an interview on the X network stated that a propagandist of the regime cannot give lessons about freedom. She emphasized that the Italian government does not take orders from anyone and remains focused only on national interests.

"By its nature, a zealous propagandist of the regime cannot teach lessons about either coherence or freedom. We, unlike others, have no obligations, no masters, and we do not accept orders. Our compass remains one: the interests of Italy. And we will continue to follow it with pride, with all due respect for propagandists everywhere," Meloni said.

The provocative statements have also drawn a reaction from Italian institutions. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that he had summoned the Russian ambassador to lodge an official protest, describing the comments as "extremely serious and offensive."

Meanwhile, President Sergio Mattarella has sent a message of solidarity to Meloni, condemning the vulgar language used.

Senate President Ignazio La Russa also called the insults "shameful and unacceptable," while Chamber of Deputies leader Lorenzo Fontana stressed that they violate the dignity of institutions and cause deep indignation.

Leaders of other Italian parties, from Matteo Salvini to Giuseppe Conte and Matteo Renzi, have also expressed solidarity with Prime Minister Meloni.
