US President Donald Trump has decided to buy more time with Iran.
Trump's announcement on Tuesday that he was extending the ceasefire with Iran pushed back the deadline he had set for Tehran to reach a deal or face resumption of the war on Wednesday.
By extending the ceasefire, Trump chose not to carry out – for now – his threats to resume a harsh air campaign against Tehran. But it also means he will be forced to make that decision again in the days or weeks ahead.
When that might happen remains unclear. Trump did not specify on Tuesday how long the new ceasefire extension would last — only that he is giving Iran more time to present a “unified proposal” to end the war.
This is the second time in two weeks that Trump has backed down from threats to escalate the conflict - a sign that he seems increasingly interested in bringing the conflict to an end. /BBC
