The Kremlin has reacted for the first time following the death of Russian critic and opposition leader Alexei Navalny, rejecting accusations that Russian President Vladimir Putin is responsible.
" Any claim that the Kremlin is responsible for the death of Alexei Navalny is "completely unacceptable" , Dmitry Peskov said, reports the Russian news agency Tass.
Peskov says the reaction of Western leaders to Navalny's death was "hysterical". Earlier, Russian parliament speaker Vyacheslav Volodin blamed the West for the Kremlin critic's death.
We recall that Alexei Navalny, one of the biggest and relentless critics of the Kremlin and the policies of the current Russian government, died in prison where he was serving years of overlapping sentences.
In a statement published on its website, the Federal Service of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District said that Mr Navalny "felt ill" during a walk, "lost consciousness" and soon died. The announcement also emphasizes that the medical staff failed to help the uncomfortable opposition leader, while Moscow TV talks about a thrombosis, but without giving many other details.
