The Netherlands aims to send the first batch of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in 2024, according to Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren.
To US television channel MSNBC, she explained that the move is possible as the Netherlands transitions to the F-35 – a change that is also happening in Norway and Denmark.
The delivery timeline depends on the training of the Ukrainian pilots, which is expected to take six to eight months, shorter than the training of the Dutch pilots.
She added that a training center is being created in Romania, which they are trying to open as soon as possible. Ms. Ollongren added that this shipment sends an important signal, not only to Kiev, but also to Moscow and the Kremlin.
