Myanmar declared seven days of national mourning on Monday after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck its center on Friday.
The national flag will be flown at half-mast in honor of the lives lost, according to state media.
The death toll from the earthquake has passed 1,700, while over 3,400 are injured and over 300 others are missing.
Meanwhile, Myanmar's junta leader, General Min Aung Hlaing, held a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday. The two discussed the impact of the earthquake and rescue and relief efforts.
Several countries have sent specialized search and rescue teams, along with humanitarian aid.
