The parents of the minor who, on May 3, 2023, killed nine students and a guard of the "Vladislav Ribnikar" elementary school in Belgrade and injured five students and a teacher, were today found guilty by the High Court in Belgrade and sentenced to prison.
KK's father, Vladimir Kecmanovic, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a serious offense against general security and three years in prison for neglect and abuse of minors, i.e. a single sentence of 14 years and 6 months in prison.
KK's mother, Miljana Keçmanovic, was sentenced to three years in prison for neglect and abuse of minors, while she was acquitted of the charge of carrying weapons without a permit. Shooting instructor Nemanja Marinkovic was sentenced to one year and three months in prison for making a false statement to the prosecutor on July 14, 2023, when he said he did not know Vladimir Kecmanovic was training his son to shoot.
The owner of the shooting range, Ratko Ivanovic, made an agreement with the High Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, based on which the court found him guilty of the criminal offense of giving a false statement and sentenced him to six months of house arrest.
The minor KK is not responsible before the law, since he was less than 14 years old at the time of the crime. In the procedure, it was proven that from 30.04.2022 to 11.04.2023, Vladimir Keçmanovic trained the minor KK to shoot in the air and firearms in the "Partizan" shooting club and in an ethnic village.
He taught the minors how to shoot human-shaped targets and how to breathe while shooting. It is noted that Kecmanovic was healthy and that he trained the child to carry weapons despite the fact that such training does not match his age, Serbian media reports.
In the conclusions reached, it was found that he carried weapons in an irregular manner, namely that he did not provide conditions for safe housing and storage of weapons and ammunition.
All this has led the minor KK to find weapons - six frames and ammunition - at least 92 cartridges, which he put in his backpack and took to the school he attends.
KK fired at least 21 bullets at three students and a school guard in the school corridor, at least five of which hit Ana Bozhovic, twice Bojana Asovic and seven times Sofija Negic and 16 times the guard Dragan Vlahovic. All died on the spot.
He fired at least 45 bullets into the 23 wounded seventh-graders, a history teacher and an intern.
He fired five bullets at Katarina Martinović, six at Mar Angjelković, two at Emma Kobiljski, seven at Adrian Dukić and two at Andrija Čikić. They died on the spot. He fired 10 bullets at Angelina Aqimovic and she died on May 15, 2023.
According to the judgment, Miljana and Vladimir Kecmanovic have seriously neglected the duties of education, they have neglected the mental and emotional state of the child, his moral development and the development of the sense of responsibility among minors.
It was also said that after the child was transferred to another department due to the feeling of rejection, they did not react and acted on the recommendation to contact a psychologist.
In the judgment it was said that the minor KK did not show emotions and was pressured by his mother to be the best in school. Judge Zoran Bozhovic, explaining the verdict, stated that the Court acted within the limits of the criminal law and legislation and that it has been proven beyond doubt that the consequences are irreparable, namely that they have caused tragedies on a large scale.
When it comes to the offense for which Miljana Kecmanovic was acquitted, namely possession of a weapon without a permit, because her DNA was found on a cartridge from the history cabinet where the crime took place, the judge said that the DNA expertise did not prove the circumstances in which the trace was created.
On the eve of the sentencing, a group of citizens observed ten minutes of silence for those killed in "Ribnikar", and then placed flowers in front of the entrance to the Palace of Justice.
In the "Vladislav Ribnikar" school, Bojana Asović (11 years old), Ana Bozović (11 years old), Katarina Martinović (12 years old), Mara Anđelković (13 years old), Ema Kobiljski (13 years old), Sofija Negić (13 years old), were killed.
