Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been asking Western powers for months to give him the right to use their long-range missiles to attack Russia.
Just when it seemed that he was close to achieving this goal, the Ukrainian president has encountered a serious obstacle.
Germany announced on Sunday that it will not allow Ukraine to launch attacks with German weapons deep into Russian territory "even if other countries decide otherwise". This is what Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared.
During a speech in Brandenburg, Scholz assured that Germany "will continue to support Ukraine militarily" so that the country "does not collapse", but stressed that he would remain opposed to the idea of Kiev using German long-range weapons to attacked targets in Russia.
"I remain firm in my position, even if other countries decide otherwise," said the German chancellor.
In recent weeks, talks have intensified on the lifting of these restrictions, and the US and the United Kingdom have agreed in principle for Ukraine to use weapons of this type.
However, Germany's position is expected to have an immediate effect in these two countries as well, since Biden and Starmer have been criticized not only by the opposition of their respective countries, but also by members of their parties.
